The View's Sunny Hostin Unleashes Fury: 'Shame on the Democrats' for Government Shutdown Deal.
This morning's episode of The View was anything but calm, as the Hot Topics segment ignited a firestorm of criticism. Sunny Hostin didn't mince words, unleashing a scathing critique of both Republicans and Democrats regarding their handling of the U.S. government shutdown – the longest in the nation's history.
For over a month, the government ground to a halt because of a stalemate in Congress. Neither party could agree on a bill to fund essential government services. Whoopi Goldberg pointed out that eight Senate Democrats had, in her words, "thrown in the towel," aligning with the GOP to advance a vote that could reopen the government. This decision sparked outrage among some of their colleagues, with Hostin leading the charge.
Hostin's frustration was palpable. She stated, "The Republicans run the House, the Republicans run the Senate, the Republicans run the White House, the Republicans run the Supreme Court, as far as I’m concerned." She went on to argue that the shutdown was a deliberate choice by Republicans, aimed at cutting vital programs. She highlighted their decisions to potentially slash SNAP benefits, reduce ACA subsidies, and weaken federal employment.
"Democrats had nothing to do with it," Hostin declared, before calling on the Democrats to act as a unified opposition. "I think the Democrats caved. I think the Democrats let down the American people… I have absolutely no faith that the Republican Party will come to the table in good faith," she fumed. "You do something like this, shame on you the first time. You do it twice? Three times? Four times? Shame on the Democrats for thinking the Republicans will even vote on it."
But here's where it gets controversial... Hostin didn't stop there; she even suggested that Minority Leader Chuck Schumer should step down if he couldn't maintain party unity, stating, "His days are over."
Ana Navarro also weighed in, taking aim at President Donald Trump for his actions during the crisis. She criticized his choice to spend the weekend partying with the President of Argentina at Mar-a-Lago, while failing to broker a deal to end the shutdown and address rising healthcare costs, which she argued would "cost lives."
"We must demand better, starting with Donald Trump," Navarro asserted. Hostin responded with a stark assessment: "We’re not gonna get better. Because with Donald Trump, the cruelty is the point. He does not care. This is a Republican choice!"
